Reaching the site

Charleston is situated in two sites in the heart of Sussex, UK. The house, gardens and galleries in Firle and our new space in Lewes.

They can both be accessed in a variety of ways however this page will focus on the Lewes location. This location is situated in the heart of Lewes and within walking distance of the train station for easy access no matter your situation.

The building is around a 2 minute walk from lewes station, all of which is traversible by ramp and is wheelchair accessible. The building is slightly uphill from the station however is not too steep with only a single road needing to be crossed.

The nearest long stay car park is Pinwell Road, operated by Lewes District Council using the RingGo app. There are also council run car parks nearby at Westgate Street (medium stay), Mountfield Road (medium stay), The Maltings (long stay), Little East Street (long stay), East Street. The train station car park is operated by APCOA Parking UK and is long stay.

On-street parking is available on Southover Road via RingGo app or pay and display.

On site facilities

The site features a variety of facilities to make your visit enjoyable. These include a quiet room to take a break from the potentially busy gallery space, accessible toilets, and a shop and cafe space for food and drink.

The buildings three floors are connected by two flights of stairs with a lift up the center of the building also being available.

If you need a short break throughout your visit here there is a variety of seating scattered around the gallery along with the primary seating in the cafe area. The majority of the space is fairly large and open with hand rails available on all stairs.

Charleston also has a well stocked shop and cafe open to customers serving a variety of teas and cakes with a Morrisons Daily just a 4 minute walk away.
